POLICE RESCUE ABDUCTED WOMAN FROM FOREST, ARREST TWO SUSPECTS IN KANGAI

Kangai Town Council, Dokolo District – February 12, 2026 – The Territorial Police in North Kyoga Region have launched a manhunt for additional accomplices following the dramatic rescue of a 28-year-old woman who was found bound and unconscious in the Alit Natural Forest Reserve.

The victim, Muwandu Peace, a 28-year-old housewife and prayer intercessor, was discovered by a passerby on the morning of February 11, 2026, approximately five hours after she vanished from her marital home under mysterious circumstances.

According to the police report registered at Kangai Town Council Police Station, the incident began at around 0400 hours at Agai Ward. The victim’s husband, Oyo Robert, reported that his wife left their bedroom to go outside but failed to return. After a frantic hour-long search of the compound—where he discovered her sandals and lessu scattered on the ground—Mr. Oyo alerted the authorities.

“The husband’s immediate action in reporting the matter gave us a critical window to act,” said SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, Public Relations Officer for North Kyoga Region.

At approximately 0930 hours, community members alerted police to the presence of an unresponsive woman in a thicketed area of Alit Cell. A joint rescue team rushed to the scene and found the victim severely restrained.

“Her hands, legs, and mouth were tightly bound using nylon ropes and a black polythene bag (kavera). She was unconscious but alive. We immediately conveyed her to Kangai Health Centre III, where she is currently receiving medical treatment and undergoing a Police Form 3 medical examination,” SP Okema confirmed.

A breakthrough in the case came swiftly following the deployment of a K9 tracking unit. The police canine led investigators directly to the residence of one of the prime suspects are Atim Morris Ocen, male adult aged 58, Manager of Alit Natural Forest Reserve and Odur Joel, male adult aged 39, a peasant farmer.

Both suspects are residents of Kangai Town Council and are currently detained at Kangai Police Station as inquiries continue.

The District CID Officer Dokolo, alongside Scene of Crime personnel led by D/AIP Obura Stephen, visited the forest crime scene and documented the area. Critical exhibits, including the nylon ropes and the black kavera used to restrain the victim, have been recovered and secured as evidence.

While the victim remains admitted and under observation, police have commended the quick-thinking passersby and the local community for their vigilance.

“We urge members of the public to remain calm but alert. Anyone with information regarding this incident or similar occurrences in the Alit Forest area should report to the nearest police station,” SP Okema added.

The case file remains open as investigations continue, with authorities not ruling out the possibility of more arrests.
