Lira, Uganda– Jacob Ocen, the NRM Publicity Secretary for Lira District and political assistant to MP Linda Auma Agnes, has called on the youth to take up leadership roles immediately, dismissing the notion that they are only "leaders of tomorrow."
His remarks came as he delivered 750kg of seedlings to the Erute North Youth Development Association, fulfilling a pledge made during MP Auma’s recent visit.
“Some say the youth are leaders of tomorrow, but I say no—leadership starts today, not tomorrow,” Ocen declared. “You must step up now, engage in decision-making, and support leaders like Hon. Linda Auma and President Museveni, who believe in your potential.”
He urged the beneficiaries to actively participate in politics and community development, emphasizing that the 2026 elections present an opportunity for the youth to solidify their influence.
Alfred Aleppo, General Secretary of the Erute North Development Association, thanked MP Auma for the seedlings and pledged full mobilization for her re-election. “We will ensure she returns to Parliament because she listens to and supports the youth,” Aleppo said.
The event highlighted growing youth engagement in Lira’s political landscape, with MP Auma positioning herself as a champion of grassroots empowerment ahead of the 2026 polls.
