NRM Primaries Heat Up in Lira: Entrepreneurs, Publicists Vie for Key Party Positions

Lira, Uganda- The race for key positions in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party’s Lira City executive has intensified, with prominent businessmen and political figures throwing their hats in the ring.  


Among the frontrunners is Francis Eryau, proprietor of Goodlord Hardware who is vying for the position of Vice Chairperson of the NRM Entrepreneurs League.Eryau, known for his business acumen, is expected to bring financial expertise to the party’s entrepreneurial wing.  


Meanwhile, Bosco Ocen, owner of Bosceno Enterprises,is contesting for the Treasurer position but will face stiff competition from Okello Denis Potcwao (PC).


The treasurer’s race is shaping up to be one of the most competitive battles in the upcoming NRM primaries.  


Jacob Ocen: The ‘Ofwono Opondo’ of Lango Eyes Publicity Secretary Role


A notable contender is Jacob Ocen, who has declared his bid for the NRM Publicity Secretary position in Lira City. Ocen, who previously served as the NRM Publicity Secretary for Lira District,is widely regarded as the face of the party in the Lango sub-region.  


Renowned for his articulate and respectful debating style, Ocen has been a regular on political talk shows, earning him the nickname “the Ofwono Opondo of Lango.”His ability to engage in political discourse with humility and decorum has made him a favorite among party supporters.  



Pius Olam,proprietor of *Kingston Oil and Champion Winners,is eyeing the Chairperson position of the NRM Entrepreneurs League in Lira City.

Olam’s business experience and influence could give him an edge in mobilizing support.  


On the other hand, Patricia Alany, a vocal political activist, is contesting for the position of Publicity Secretary of the NRM Workers League.She has outlined a six-point agenda including:  


1. Strengthening Communication Channels– Ensuring workers are well-informed on party activities.  

2. Promoting Workers’ Issues– Amplifying their challenges and achievements.  

3. Building a Positive League Image –Enhancing the Workers League’s visibility.  

4. Youth & Women Inclusion – Encouraging more participation from these groups.  

5. Leveraging Media & Technology*l– Using digital platforms for effective messaging.  

6. Mobilization for Party Activities– Ensuring strong worker representation in NRM events.
