Lira, May 21, 2026 – Lira District Woman Member of Parliament, Linda Agnes Auma, has officially been nominated as a candidate for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Lira District Chairperson seat. The nomination took place on Wednesday, May 21, 2026, marking a significant step in her political journey.
Speaking shortly after her nomination, Auma pledged to prioritize development projects and ensure NRM supporters benefit from government programs. She emphasized the need for grassroots monitoring of government initiatives to enhance service delivery.
“I will ensure that NRM supporters are at the forefront of development. We must actively monitor government programs to ensure they reach the intended beneficiaries," Auma stated.
Additionally, she promised to focus on wealth creation initiatives, particularly for party loyalists, as part of her broader agenda to uplift the district’s economic prospects.
Auma faces stiff competition from Sam Engola, Senior Presidential Advisor on Lango Affairs and former State Minister for Housing and Urban Development. Despite the challenge, she expressed confidence in her victory, citing her grassroots connection and track record as an MP.
“I am sure of winning this race because the people know my work. This is about service, and I am ready to deliver," she asserted.
The NRM district elections are scheduled for April 23, 2025,in Ogur Sub-County. Political analysts predict a highly contested race, with both candidates mobilizing support across the district.
