The body of Ogwang Bosco, a resident of Otada village in Lira District, was exhumed on May 9, 2025, following suspicions that his death may not have been a suicide as initially believed.
Ogwang Bosco was found lying unconscious in a bush near his home on February 20, 2025, with a bottle of suspected poison beside him. He was rushed to Gift Life Medical Centre but was pronounced dead upon arrival. His body was later handed over to relatives for burial.
However, new information emerged suggesting that Ogwang Bosco may have been beaten by his wife and children before being taken to the bush, with the poison bottle allegedly placed as a cover-up to make his death appear self-inflicted.
The Clan Chief, Mr. Tom Odur Anang, called for an investigation after receiving reports of possible foul play. Clan members convened and agreed that a postmortem was necessary to determine the true cause of death.
A court order was obtained, and on May 9, 2025, at around 2:00 PM, Ogwang Bosco’s body was exhumed. A team of doctors from Lira Regional Referral Hospital conducted the autopsy and extracted samples for further analysis at a government laboratory.
Police Spokesperson for North Kyoga, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, confirmed the exhumation, stating that the postmortem report will be submitted to the Resident State Criminal Investigations Officer (RSCIO) for legal advice and further action.
Authorities have not yet made any arrests but say investigations are ongoing to determine whether Ogwang Bosco was murdered.
