Museveni’s Lango Victory Visit Set for April 18: ‘A Handshake for Every Patriot’-Leo Aguda Olila

LIRA CITY, UGANDA – The Lango sub-region is preparing for a historic moment on April 18, 2026, as His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni visits to celebrate his emphatic presidential victory—a win that saw him secure 82% of the national vote. According to senior National Resistance Movement (NRM) officials, the event will be far more than a political rally; it is being framed as a day of reflection, appreciation, and renewed commitment to development.

Leo Aguda, Senior NRM Mobiliser, revealed that the overwhelming mandate was “not accidental,” but the fruit of relentless grassroots work by party loyalists who endured decades of intimidation and criticism from opposition groups.

“This victory was born out of devotion and sacrifice,” Aguda said. “Our mobilisers worked tirelessly on the ground, engaging communities and ensuring that the message of stability, progress, and continuity reached every household. Yet behind this success lies a story of endurance.”

Aguda acknowledged that many NRM supporters—particularly at the village level—have been questioned about their loyalty to the ruling government, especially when their communities faced socio-economic hardships. Despite those pressures, he noted, they remained steadfast.

“These are patriots who stood firm in their convictions despite adversity,” Aguda said. “Their contribution cannot go unnoticed.”

To that end, the April 18 visit will feature direct engagement between the President and ordinary citizens—the wananchi—allowing them to voice concerns over livelihoods, infrastructure, and service delivery. Aguda described a “presidential handshake” as a powerful symbol of recognition for those who sacrificed for the party.

“This visit is an opportunity for His Excellency to listen firsthand to the pain points of the people and align government priorities with their needs,” Aguda remarked. “It is through such engagements that meaningful and inclusive development can be achieved.”

The NRM mobiliser extended heartfelt gratitude to the party’s political leadership and mobilising structures for coordinating what promises to be a remarkable celebration.

“As we gather on April 18, let it be a moment of unity, appreciation, and renewed hope for the future,” he concluded.

All roads are expected to lead to Lango sub-region as the NRM fraternity prepares to welcome the President—not merely as a victor, but as a listener.
