Mob Justice Claims Lira University Student, Leaves Nurse Critical
I Will Vote Eddy Morrish Ogweng For MP Lira City West 2026-2031

LIRA DISTRICT – The Territorial Police in Lira District have launched a major investigation into a horrific case of murder by mob action and attempted murder that left a university student dead and a nurse fighting for his life.

The incident, which occurred in Ayito Village, Adola Parish, Awiodyek Sub-county, was reported to authorities on the morning of December 3rd, 2025. Preliminary findings indicate that two men were discovered bound and brutally assaulted by the roadside along the route from Corner Amach to Amach Town Council.

The scene, described by investigators as particularly disturbing, revealed the victims had ropes tied around them with dead chickens attached. Assorted clothing and two pairs of shoes were placed near the deceased, hallmarks of a suspected mob justice attack.

The deceased has been identified as Ongom Emmanuel, a 24-year-old student of Lira University and a resident of Kakoge in Lira City. The surviving victim is Otim Makey, a nurse at the Good Choice Clinic in Kakoge Zone. Makey was found unconscious and in critical condition.

According to a statement released by Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Public Relations Officer for North Kyoga Region, police acted swiftly upon the report filed by Majan Police Post. A specialized joint team from area police, the Homicide department, the Canine Unit, and Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) descended on the location to document evidence.

"The unconscious victim, Otim Makey, was immediately evacuated to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for treatment and is reportedly responding well," stated AIP Okema.

A significant breakthrough came when a police dog tracked a scent from the scene, leading to the arrest of Otiti David, who is currently in custody assisting with investigations. The body of the late Emmanuel Ongom has been taken to the same hospital’s mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Authorities confirm that prime suspects remain at large. "Intelligence efforts are actively underway to have them arrested," Okema assured, adding that the surviving victim, Otim Makey, is expected to aid in identifying the perpetrators once his health stabilizes.

The police have condemned the act of mob justice and urged the public to allow law enforcement to handle suspected crimes. The investigation, now being managed at the Lira District level, continues as officers pursue leads to apprehend the remaining suspects.
