Mix Farming Pays Off: Dr. Orec Earns Millions from Bananas While Awaiting Cocoa Harvest
I Will Vote Eddy Morrish Ogweng For MP Lira City West 2026-2031

Dr. Isaac Orec, the director of Victoria Mixed Farm in Akalo Sub-county, Kole District, which is the brain child of Youth At Work Development Initiative (YAWODI)has called upon the people of Lango, especially the youth, to embrace the cultivation of cocoa and bananas as a sustainable means of wealth creation.

Speaking to Karumapost on Sunday after arriving with a truckload of bananas worth Shs200,000, Dr. Orec emphasized the economic benefits of intercropping bananas with cocoa.

He explained that while cocoa takes time to mature, banana farming provides quick returns, ensuring steady income for farmers.

“Planting bananas alongside cocoa is highly profitable. Even before cocoa starts yielding money, bananas alone can generate significant income,"Dr. Orec said.

He revealed that his banana plantation earns him over Shs900,000 per month, while the sale of banana suckers (seeds) has already fetched him Shs4,000,000. With such impressive returns, he urged the youth to abandon unproductive habits like playing ludo, cards, or pool tables and instead focus on agriculture.

“Youth should not just think about fighting poverty—they should focus on wealth creation. Farming is a practical solution,"he stressed.

Dr. Orec’s message resonates at a time when unemployment among Ugandan youth remains high. His success story serves as proof that agribusiness, when approached strategically, can transform livelihoods.

As more farmers in Lango adopt his model, the region could see a significant boost in agricultural productivity and economic growth.
