Oyam, Uganda – August 5, 2025:
Police in Oyam District have launched a full-scale investigation into the alleged murder of a 36-year-old man, Acila Jacob Jimmy, who was brutally attacked and killed in the early hours of Tuesday morning in Arok village, Akaka parish, Aber Sub-County.
According to a police statement issued by Superintendent of Police (SP) Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson, the incident occurred at approximately 12:05 am. It is alleged that a primary suspect, Otim Patrick, picked up the deceased from his home and, along with three unidentified accomplices, attacked Acila using pangas and locally made spears under unclear circumstances.
The attack, which happened along a village path, was witnessed by Acila’s elder brother, Bua Patrick, 46, who responded to an alarm raised by the victim. Upon reaching the scene, Bua reportedly saw the suspects fleeing after the assault.
The murder was first reported to the Local Council I chairperson of Arok village before being escalated to Kamdini Town Council Police Station, where a case file was opened.
Crime scene investigators and uniformed officers led by the Officer in Charge of Kamdini Police Station promptly visited and documented the scene. Forensic teams recovered critical exhibits, including a blood-stained panga, traditional spears, and samples of blood.
Acila’s body, which bore multiple deep cuts to the head and other parts of the body, was dressed in a white short-sleeved shirt, shorts, and gumboots. The body was transported to Anyeke Health Center IV mortuary for a postmortem examination.
In a significant development, the prime suspect, Otim Patrick, has since turned himself in at Kole Police Station and has been transferred to Oyam Central Police Station for further interrogation. Police efforts to trace and apprehend the remaining suspects are ongoing.
Authorities have urged anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the other culprits to come forward.
