Lira’s Victoria School of Nursing & Midwifery Once Again Proves Mettle at National Skills Competition in Jinja

JINJA, UGANDA – Just weeks after being crowned the overall winner in the nursing skills competition for nursing schools in the Lango subregion, Victoria School of Nursing and Midwifery in Lira City has replicated that feat on the national stage, emerging as one of the top-performing nursing schools at the 2026 National Skills Competition held in Jinja.

This publication has learned that out of dozens of nursing schools from across the country, Victoria School of Nursing and Midwifery was officially recognized among the best, reaffirming its reputation for academic excellence and practical medical proficiency.

According to official competition reports, only two nursing schools from the Lango subregion qualified or were represented at the national event. Of those two, the majority of outstanding students who earned top marks came from Victoria School of Nursing and Midwifery, Lira. The specific names of the award-winning students are expected to be released by the school later this week.

The National Skills Competition in Jinja brings together nursing and midwifery institutions from all four regions of Uganda, testing candidates on critical areas such as patient care, emergency response, infection control, and clinical procedures.

In his weekly media address, Dr. Isaac Orec, the Chief Executive Officer of Victoria School of Nursing and Midwifery, extended heartfelt gratitude to the students for their discipline and hard work.

“We set a standard of excellence here at Victoria, and I am proud that our students have not only maintained that standard but have also carried the flag of Lango subregion with dignity at the national level,” Dr. Orec said. “I thank the students for these good results. They have made their families, their trainers, and the entire school community proud.”

The school’s latest feat solidifies its status as a leading private health training institution in northern Uganda, attracting prospective nursing and midwifery students from across the country.

Management has hinted at a planned celebration ceremony in Lira City to honor the students and their instructors.
