Lira District MP Auma Declares NRM Candidature, Donates 2,000 Aluminium Saucepans in Agweng

Lira District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Linda Agnes Auma, has officially declared her intention to contest under the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party ticket in the upcoming elections.

Speaking at a public gathering in Agweng Town Council, Auma said she deliberately chose January 26th to make her pronouncement, a date that holds historical significance for her family and Uganda at large.

“My father, Lt. Col David Oyite Ojok, made the pronouncements of Liberation Day on Radio Uganda. It is only fitting that I declare my candidature on this same day, in respect of that legacy,” she stated.

To mark the occasion, Hon. Auma distributed 2,000 aluminium saucepans to households across several villages including Wi Akot A, Wi Akot B, Acelela, Agweng, Wiidam A, Wiidam B, Amiabil, Apera, and Tengombolola.

She explained that the gesture was in line with a campaign promise and symbolic of her previous campaign as an independent.

“When I first contested, my symbol was a pot. Today, I’m honoring that promise and symbolism by giving these saucepans to the people,” she said.

Hon. Auma also addressed the growing tension in local politics, condemning the use of insults and malicious tactics among some aspirants.

“Some contestants have started trading insults and spreading falsehoods, thinking that’s how to win voters. But they are dividing the community and promoting hate,” she warned.

She urged residents of Agweng and surrounding areas to reject divisive politics.

“Let’s not embrace this ‘help me hate this person’ kind of politics. After elections, we all must continue living together as one community,” she emphasized.

Her declaration now positions her firmly in the NRM race for Lira District Woman MP, adding momentum to her growing campaign machinery.
