Lira City West Hopeful Ogweng Advocates for Maturity, Tolerance Among Political Players

Lira City – March 14, 2025

Aspiring Member of Parliament for Lira City West, Eddy Morris Ogweng, has issued a passionate appeal for political tolerance and mutual respect among political players in Lira City, as tensions rise ahead of the 2026 general elections. Ogweng’s call comes amid growing concerns over politically motivated arrests, prosecutions, and witch-hunts, which have sparked heated debates on social media and in public forums.

In an exclusive interview with Karumapost,Ogweng emphasized that intolerance and the suppression of dissenting views could lead to the downfall of political actors. He warned that the current trajectory of attacks on opposing voices could have dire consequences for the political landscape in Lira City.

“I foresee a serious battle in Lira City politics, but should any of the sides—City West, City East, or the Women’s Constituency—choose to cling to the trajectory of attacking dissenting views, such will be on a very early political grave. The maturity of a politician is seen from the level of tolerance in the midst of turbulence,” Ogweng stated.

Currently leading the race for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag in Lira City West, Ogweng reaffirmed his commitment to contesting for the parliamentary seat in the 12th Parliament (2026–2031). He stressed that fostering a culture of political tolerance is essential for maintaining stability and ensuring credible elections in the region.

As the political climate intensifies, opinion leaders and stakeholders across various sectors have echoed Ogweng’s sentiments, calling for peaceful engagement and mutual respect among all candidates and their supporters. Observers believe that promoting tolerance and dialogue will be critical to preventing violence and ensuring a fair electoral process.

Ogweng’s message resonates deeply in Lira City, where political rivalries have historically led to divisions and unrest. His call for maturity and restraint has been welcomed by many, who see it as a step toward building a more inclusive and democratic political environment.

With the 2026 elections on the horizon, the spotlight remains on Lira City as political players navigate the delicate balance between competition and collaboration. Ogweng’s appeal serves as a timely reminder that the strength of a democracy lies in its ability to accommodate diverse voices and perspectives.

As the race heats up, all eyes will be on Lira City to see whether its political leaders can rise above divisive tactics and embrace the spirit of tolerance and unity that Ogweng champions.
