Lira City Told: 'Don’t Betray Dr. Aceng in 2026—She Has Served with Discipline and Dedication

Lira City –Patrick Opige Okwel, a mayoral aspirant for Lira City, has publicly called on voters to re-elect Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero as the Woman Member of Parliament for Lira City in the 2026 general elections.

His statement comes as the Minister of Gender, Labour, and Social Development, Betty Amongi Akena, intensifies campaigns across Lira City in an attempt to unseat Dr. Aceng. However, Opige insists that Dr. Aceng’s track record in healthcare and development makes her the best choice for Lira.

Speaking to locals, Opige highlighted Dr. Aceng’s contributions, including the establishment of a satellite laboratory in Lira, which he said would benefit countless residents. He also praised her for supporting many Lango people who sought medical treatment in Kampala.

“She stood with our people when they needed help. Even the late Michael Ogwal Achonga (former Mayor of Lira City West Division) and Gideon Omony, among others, received her assistance during their illness. Though they didn’t survive, her efforts were undeniable,Opige said.

Opige further urged voters not to be swayed by political rhetoric, emphasizing Dr. Aceng’s humility and discipline.

“She has never responded to insults with insults. Her discipline is unmatched, and she truly has Lango at heart. It would be a great shame if we fail to re-elect her,” he stated.

He also warned that Lira City’s progress could stall if Dr. Aceng is not given another term, vowing to rally support behind her re-election bid.

As the 2026 elections draw closer, the battle for Lira City’s Woman MP seat is expected to intensify, with Dr. Aceng’s supporters positioning her as a development-focused leader against Amongi’s political challenge.
