Leadership Is Not Accidental: Why Dr. Kisembo Ronex Tendo Must Sit in the EALA Arusha Chamber

KAMPALA – He has never held a high-profile political office. He has no deep war chest. He isn't chasing a salary. Yet, colleagues and East African integration enthusiasts are rallying behind Dr. Kisembo Ronex Tendo as the ideal candidate for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), arguing that his proven passion, attention to detail, and selfless commitment to regional unity set him apart from conventional contenders.

For years, friends and fellow East Africanists have asked the same question: Why hasn't Dr. Tendo contested for EALA? Based on what they have witnessed him do for the region beyond Uganda's borders and without expectation of reward they believe he is exactly the kind of leader the Assembly in Arusha desperately needs.

"Tendo has proven himself even without resources, connections, or much to gain. His passion is unquestionable," said one close associate who has worked alongside him on regional matters. "He hasn't come out for a job. Many of us have been asking why he hasn't contested. Now he has listened."

One anecdote, in particular, has become emblematic of Tendo's character. During a patriotic walk organized by the East African Oba group a trek from Kampala all the way to the Tanzania border Tendo applied relentless pressure on authorities to clear ambulances to support the walkers.

"He pushed for ambulances to be cleared to support the East African Oba patriotic walk," the associate recalled. "That's the man we need. Not for the votes, but for his passion, attention to detail, and commitment."

The same colleague, reflecting on shared experiences, said serving alongside Tendo would be an honour.

"I would personally be proud to serve with him. Karibu ndugu Hon. Tendo Ronix," the statement read, using a honorary title in anticipation of his election.

Beyond the immediate campaign, those who know Tendo describe a leader who views leadership as "a matter of reflection and growth."

"It is in the quiet moments that a leader evaluates their actions—whether they led by example, listened with intention, and empowered someone along the way," an associate noted. "Growth in leadership is not accidental; it is built through daily choices, honesty, and the willingness to improve."

According to this philosophy, rest becomes preparation, reflection becomes learning, and each new day offers another opportunity to lead with greater clarity and impact.

Supporters argue that the East African Legislative Assembly does not need another politician seeking a comfortable posting. What OMICALA (a reference to the EALA sitting in Arusha) needs, they say, is a man of Tendo's calibre—someone driven by passion for integration, not personal gain.

"EALA needs this man," the colleague concluded. "Not for the votes, but for his passion."

Dr. Kisembo Ronex Tendo has yet to release an official campaign manifesto, but those who have long urged him to run say his track record speaks for itself. Whether clearing ambulances for cross-border solidarity walks or quietly working for East Africa's people without fanfare, they believe his time has come.
