LIRA CITY – Police in the North Kyoga Region have launched an investigation into the sudden death of a Kenyan national whose body was discovered inside his locked room in Lira City East Division on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Jenga Sam, approximately 50 years old, a produce dealer residing in the Camp Swahili cell, Tebia ward.
According to a statement released by SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Public Relations Officer for the North Kyoga Region, the alarm was raised on the morning of November 25, 2025. The report was formally registered at the Lira-City East Division headquarters by a fellow Kenyan national, Wamari Issa, 37, who also lives in Camp Swahili cell.
Upon receiving the information, a team of senior police officers, including the District Police Commander (DPC), Officer in Charge of the Station (OC Station), and the District Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO), immediately proceeded to the scene.
"There, they confirmed the body was seen through the window lying on the bed, facing the roof with both legs slanting on the floor," SP Okema stated.
The scene presented a puzzle for investigators. The door to the room was found locked from the inside, forcing officers to break it open to gain access. Inside, they noted that a black backpack and some clothes were on the bed, while an assortment of drugs was on a table.
Police documented the scene, took photographs, and recovered several items as exhibits. These included the deceased's bag, clothes, mobile phone, and the drugs found on the table. The body was subsequently transported to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Authorities have indicated that the manager of the premises is yet to record a formal statement regarding the incident. The investigation is ongoing as police work to piece together the final hours of the deceased.
