Fatal Crash Claims Life of 25-Year-Old Police Officer in Dokolo

A 25-year-old police officer, PC Batambwire Abel, has died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident along the Lira-Soroti highway in Dokolo Town Council. The incident occurred on March 20, 2025, when the officer lost control of his bike after hitting a road hump, leading to fatal injuries.  

According to police reports, PC Batambwire Abel, attached to Agwata Town Council Police Station, was riding his Yamaha motorcycle (Reg. No. UP 8475) to Dokolo Central Police Station (CPS) for a morning briefing when the accident happened.  


At around 5:45 a.m., near Aminkwach Swamp, the officer reportedly struck a road hump, veered off the road, and collided with metallic guardrails. He sustained severe injuries and was immediately rushed to Olimpat Medical Center in Dokolo before being transferred to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for a CT scan.  


Due to the severity of his condition, he was later referred to Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala, where he tragically passed away on the evening of March 25, 2025.  

North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, confirmed the incident, expressing deep sorrow over the loss.  

It is really very unfortunate losing this young officer who was a big resource to the institution. Our condolences go to the bereaved family, and necessary arrangements are being made for a decent burial,” SP Okema stated.  


Okema added that they have started investigating the exact cause of the crash, including whether road conditions or speed played a role. The death has sent shockwaves through the police force, with colleagues mourning the loss of a dedicated officer.
