Residents of Abim Primary School in Alito Sub-county, Kole District, are celebrating after the long-awaited commissioning of a new borehole on Saturday, May 17, 2025.
The borehole, which was donated by Show Mercy International, comes as a major relief to the community after the only existing borehole broke down eight months ago, plunging the area into a severe water crisis.
Local leaders and residents gathered in large numbers to witness the commissioning, expressing joy and gratitude for the project. According to reports, the water shortage had forced pupils to travel long distances in search of water, exposing them to dangerous conditions. Tragically, three children were reportedly involved in motorcycle accidents during their search for clean water.
Bishop Joseph Omara of the National Fellowship of Born Again Churches, who presided over the commissioning ceremony, praised Kole District Woman MP Judith Alyek for her quick intervention. “When I received the report from Hon. Alyek, I couldn’t bear to see the pupils continue to suffer,” Bishop Omara said. “Good leaders like Judith Alyek deserve another term—her work speaks for itself.”
Bishop Omara further emphasized that more development projects could come to Kole if leaders like Alyek remain in office.
Rosemary Akullo, a representative from Show Mercy International, said their organization was proud to work with Alyek, citing her strong network and commitment to the well-being of her constituents. “We are happy to partner with a leader like Judith Alyek who has both the connections and the heart to help her people,” Akullo said.
In her remarks, Hon. Judith Alyek reassured the community of her continued commitment to development. “Next week, we are bringing in 500 wheelchairs for people with disabilities from Kenya,” she announced. “With the networks I have built, I will keep mobilizing resources for Kole.”
Tom Olet, the Local Council III Chairperson for Alito Sub-county, echoed the appreciation, thanking Alyek for her support and urging residents to re-elect her in the 2026 elections.
