Jaspher Abong Declares Candidacy for Otuke County MP Seat, Vows to Eradicate Poverty and Restore Effective Leadership

Otuke, Uganda – Jaspher Abong has officially announced his bid to contest for the position of Member of Parliament (MP) for Otuke County in the upcoming 2026 general elections. Abong, a dedicated leader and community advocate, says his decision to enter the race is fueled by the urgent need to address the persistent poverty affecting the people of Otuke and to restore effective leadership in the constituency.

Abong, who aims to replace the current MP, Paul Omara, emphasized that despite various development initiatives in Otuke, the local population continues to struggle due to poor leadership and lack of impactful government projects

“For years, the people of Otuke have endured extreme poverty, and there has been no meaningful leadership to change this reality. The few projects initiated by NGOs have not been maximized because our leaders have failed to guide and sensitize the population on how to benefit from them,” Abong stated.

He outlined his vision to fight poverty through strategic programs aimed at empowering local communities, improving agriculture, and enhancing value addition to local products. While he refrained from disclosing the full details of his plans, he assured the public that he would unveil them at the appropriate time.

Another major factor driving Abong’s political ambition is what he describes as a leadership crisis in Otuke. According to him, the community has felt little to no impact from the current leadership, with no tangible projects that residents can point to as direct benefits from their elected representatives.

“Leadership in Otuke has gone down. People do not feel the impact of those in office. It is time to bring in a leadership that truly serves the people, unites the community, and ensures development reaches everyone,” Abong declared.

Acknowledging the presence of multiple aspirants for the 2026 elections, he urged voters to remain focused on choosing a leader who prioritizes their needs and is committed to delivering meaningful change.

With his campaign gaining momentum, Abong is positioning himself as a champion of community-driven development and effective governance. As the election season approaches, all eyes will be on Otuke County to see how the political landscape unfolds.
