DOKOLO, Uganda – A daring case of aggravated robbery, executed by a man impersonating a high-level government inspector, has shaken the Dokolo Oil Petrol Station, leading to the detention of the station's manager as police investigate conflicting details of the incident.
The robbery, which occurred on the morning of October 13, 2025, began as an official visit. According to a statement released by the North Kyoga Regional Police, the suspect entered the petrol station at approximately 8:30 AM and introduced himself as Baine Mwesigye, an official from the Inspectorate of Government (IGG).
He claimed his mission was to inspect how the District LCV Chairman and the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) drew their fuel. The manager, Mr. Olila Benard, compliantly allowed the man to sign the visitors' book and presented the fuel entry logs as requested.
The situation escalated when the imposter demanded to see the payment receipts. When Manager Olila entered a private room containing the safe and receipt books, the suspect swiftly followed him in, locked the door behind them, and revealed his true intent.
“He pulled out a pistol from his bag and put the manager at gunpoint,” stated Police PRO Patrick Jimmy Okema. “He then tied the manager's mouth with masking tape, bound his hands, and proceeded to remove approximately six million shillings [approx. $1,600 USD] from the safe.”
The assailant then locked the terrified manager inside the room and calmly walked away. Unaware of the violent crime unfolding just meters away, pump attendants and a private security guard from Rock Security Company continued their duties, only noticing something was amiss when they heard shouting and frantic banging from the manager's office.
Upon forcing the door open, the staff was met with the manager's harrowing account. They confirmed seeing the well-dressed "official" walking away gently, with no reason to suspect the brazen robbery he had just committed.
Police were immediately alerted, and a case of Aggravated Robbery was registered at Dokolo Police Station. A team of officers and Scenes of Crime Officers (SOCO) have visited the site to gather evidence.
“Investigation and efforts to track the suspect are under way,” PRO Okema confirmed. However, in a surprising turn of events, he added that “the manager has been detained due to a lack of collaborating findings,” indicating potential discrepancies in the initial evidence that require further clarification.
The police are appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the arrest of the individual posing as Baine Mwesigye.
