Healing the Wounds: Lira City West NRM Chairperson Urges Losers to Join Hands for Party Progress

Lira, May 21, 2026– The newly elected National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairperson for Lira City West Division, Tonny Olipa, has pledged to foster unity among party supporters following a competitive election season.

Speaking shortly after his victory, Olipa extended an olive branch to his opponents, urging them to set aside election grievances and work together for the party’s growth.

"Those who lost in the elections should come forward so that we can work together for the betterment of our party," Olipa said. "There are many people who are still wounded because of the election tensions, but it’s time to throw away hatred and unite for progress."

Olipa emphasized that his leadership will prioritize the development of small-scale businesses, which he described as the backbone of Lira City West’s economy.

"Small businessmen and women are key to our city’s development. My office will work to ensure they get the necessary support to grow their enterprises," he promised.

The new chairperson thanked NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong, NRM Election Chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi, and the Lira City West Division registrar for overseeing a transparent electoral process.

He also expressed deep appreciation to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, crediting him for restoring and upholding democracy in Uganda.

"I thank President Museveni for his visionary leadership and for ensuring that democracy thrives in our country. Under his guidance, the NRM remains strong," Olipa stated.

As he assumes office, all eyes will be on his ability to reconcile factions within the party and deliver on his promises of economic empowerment and inclusive leadership.
