Lira City – Hope has returned to the people of Lango following the opening of Glorious Community Mental Health Service Centre, the first rehabilitation facility in the sub-region. The centre, located in Kichope Cell, Lira City West Division, is already being hailed as a lifeline for people struggling with mental health challenges.
For years, many people in Lango battling trauma, stress, depression, drug and alcohol addiction, and other mental illnesses had nowhere to turn for proper treatment. But now, thanks to the initiative of youthful mental health professional Dr. Peter Daniel Obol, the region has a place of refuge and recovery.
Speaking to karumapost,Dr. Obol explained that the centre was established to provide professional help to people suffering from mental health conditions such as stress, depression, anxiety, addiction, and the effects of domestic violence.
“We are losing so many lives to suicide, yet many of these cases can be prevented through constant guidance, counseling, and rehabilitation. Glorious Centre is here to walk with people on their journey of healing, and we are offering these services at a friendly cost,” Dr. Obol said.
The centre has already started changing lives.
Deo Ebong, a ghetto youth leader from Baronger Cell in Lira City East, testified that the centre has helped him overcome drug and alcohol addiction.
“Glorious gave me a second chance in life. I am no longer using drugs and alcohol. I urge my fellow youths to stop abusing drugs and opium so they can have a better future,” Ebong shared.
Mental health experts say the opening of Glorious Community Mental Health Service Centre is a major step forward in addressing the growing problem of mental illness in Lango, where cases of substance abuse, depression, and suicide are on the rise.
With its doors now open, the centre has become a beacon of hope, offering guidance, counseling, and rehabilitation services to all who need them.
