DOKOLO – December 8, 2025 – A tragic accident on Sunday evening claimed two lives and left six others with serious injuries in Dokolo District. The Territorial Police have confirmed that a truck carrying a group of local footballers overturned, resulting in the fatalities.

The incident occurred on December 7 at approximately 8:30 PM along the Bata-Dokolo road. According to a police statement released by SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga Region Public Relations Officer, the driver of a blue Isuzu truck (Registration UBA 111R) lost control at a hilly section in Arudabiro Cell, Dokolo Town Council.

The vehicle, which was transporting footballers from Adwoki and Agwata parishes, veered off the road and overturned. The team was returning from a competition at Abako Primary School in the neighbouring Alebtong District.

“As a result, two male adults died instantly, while five other male adults and one juvenile sustained serious injuries,” stated SP Okema.

The police identified the driver as Okori Brain Pius, 28, a resident of Agebo B Cell, Agwata Town Council in Dokolo. He is currently detained at Dokolo Central Police Station as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.

Emergency responders rushed the six injured victims to Dokolo Health Centre IV for urgent medical treatment. The bodies of the two deceased were conveyed to the same facility’s mortuary, pending post-mortem examinations.

The scene of the accident was visited and documented by the Officer in Charge of Traffic for Dokolo and his team. The involved motor vehicle has been impounded and parked at the Dokolo CPS yard, awaiting a thorough inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (I.O.V).

The names of the deceased and the injured victims are being withheld by authorities pending notification of their families. Police say the identities will be communicated once officially obtained.

SP Okema reiterated that the investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances that led to the driver losing control of the vehicle.
