Elevating Agribusiness: dfcu Bank, Vision Group & Dutch Embassy Unveil 11th Edition of Best Farmers Competition

Zirobwe, Luweero District – 16th April 2025 – dfcu Bank, in partnership with Vision Group, KLM, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and Koudjis, today launched the 11th edition of the Best Farmers Competition at Prime Agro Farm in Zirobwe, Luweero District. Under the theme “Value Addition with Focus on Large-Scale Farmers and Cooperatives,” this year’s competition aims to drive innovation, enhance post-harvest handling, and elevate Uganda’s agricultural productivity.  


The event was hosted at Prime Agro Farm Ltd.,owned by Sebastian Ruta Ngabwa, the 2023 Best Farmers Competition winner, symbolizing the transformative impact of the initiative.  


This year’s competition emphasizes value addition, requiring participants to showcase innovations in processing, packaging, and branding. By doing so, the initiative seeks to improve marketability, reduce post-harvest losses, and maximize farmers’ profits.  


Mathias Jumba, Head of Integrated Channels at dfcu Bank, remarked:  

“The Best Farmers Competition celebrates Uganda's most impactful farmers, inspiring many more to turn agriculture from mere survival into sustainable prosperity. For over 60 years, dfcu has been a steadfast partner to Uganda’s farmers—bridging financing gaps, supporting value chains, and uplifting agribusinesses of all sizes.”

To ensure broader inclusivity, the 2025 edition introduces three key categories:  

1. Large-Scale Farmers 

2. Small & Medium-Scale Farmers

3. Farmer Cooperatives  

Through the Foundation,the bank has made significant strides in agribusiness development, including:  

✅ 1,281 agribusinesses supported with financing & capacity-building  

✅ 490 enterprises accelerated through mentorship & growth programs  

✅ 52% women inclusion in agribusiness initiatives since 2018  

✅ 59,000 beneficiaries reached through training & financial inclusion  

✅ $22 million+in business linkages facilitated  

✅ 5,000+ enterprises connected to financial services
