Kampala – In a surprising twist, Dr. Samuel Odongo Oledo has officially declared his nomination for the position of NRM’s 1st National Vice Chairperson, dismissing claims that Alhaji Moses Kyigongo is running unopposed.
Speaking to the press, Dr. Oledo confirmed that three candidates—himself, Alhaji Moses Kyigongo, and Dean Kisembo—have been nominated for the influential party position. He emphasized that his candidacy represents a “clarion call for transformative leadership" aimed at consolidating the achievements of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) while ensuring youth inclusivity in the party’s national agenda.
“The narrative that this is a one-horse race is false. We are three strong candidates, each bringing unique strengths to the table,"Dr. Oledo stated.
“My mission is to champion a leadership that not only preserves the gains of the NRM but also actively engages the youth, who are the backbone of this nation."
The race for the NRM’s 1st National Vice Chairperson has gained significant attention, with Alhaji Kyigongo previously perceived as the sole contender. However, Dr. Oledo’s entry signals a competitive showdown, with Dean Kisembo also in the mix.
Political analysts suggest that Dr. Oledo’s focus on youth empowerment and party unity could resonate with delegates, especially amid growing calls for generational transition within the NRM.
As the party prepares for internal elections, all eyes remain on whether the delegates will favor continuity or a fresh approach in the leadership hierarchy.
The NRM Electoral Commission is expected to release the official campaign schedule, with candidates set to engage in grassroots mobilization ahead of the decisive vote.
