Dokolo District — Police in Dokolo District are investigating a case of murder by assault following a fatal altercation that left a 26-year-old man dead.
According to the North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the incident occurred on the night of April 4,2026, at an unknown time in Akaidebe Cell, Central Ward, Dokolo Town Council.
The case was reported the same morning at around 9:30 a.m. by Ogwang Jacob, the LC I Chairperson of Akaidebe Cell.
The deceased has been identified as Onyot Zakayo, a resident of the area.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Zakayo had been drinking alcohol at a local bar with others when a misunderstanding arose, escalating into a violent fight. During the altercation, a suspect identified as Okai Solomon, 18, allegedly assaulted the deceased with the help of accomplices who are still at large.
“The suspect, together with others still on the run, inflicted injuries that led to the death of the victim,” said Patrick Jimmy Okema.
Police confirmed that a case of murder by assault has since been registered. The scene of crime was visited and documented by the District CID Officer alongside homicide Scene of Crime personnel.
The body was examined by a medical officer at Dokolo Health Centre IV using Police Forms 48A and 48B before being handed over to the family for burial.
Statements from relevant witnesses have been recorded to aid investigations.
One suspect, Okai Solomon, has been arrested and is currently in custody to assist with police inquiries, while efforts to apprehend other suspects are ongoing.
Patrick Jimmy Okema has called on the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement by providing any information that could lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects.
Investigations are still ongoing, and police say more updates will be issued as the inquiry progresses.
