Kwania District, February 15, 2026 — Territorial police in Kwania District have launched investigations into a suspected murder following the death of a 50-year-old woman after an alleged assault at Aweiwot Trading Centre in Ayabi Town Council.
The deceased has been identified as Apio Everlyn, a peasant farmer and resident of Ogwil Village, Ogwil Parish, Ayabi Sub-county in Kwania District.
According to North Kyoga Region Public Relations Officer Superintendent of Police Patrick Jimmy Okema the case was reported by Ngura Nelson, a 51-year-old peasant farmer and clan chief of Arak Ongoda clan, residing in Alach B Village, Ogwil Parish. The incident is said to have occurred at around 11:00am on February 15, 2026, at a produce shop in Aweiwot Trading Centre.
It is alleged that the deceased had gone to demand payment of UGX 7,000 for maize supplied to Alobo Flavia when a quarrel broke out between the two. During the altercation, Alobo Flavia reportedly assaulted Apio Everlyn. Police further allege that Oyom Edmond joined the fray and slapped the deceased from behind.
Following the incident, the deceased returned to her home where she remained until about 6:00pm when her condition reportedly deteriorated. Her son rushed her to a nearby drug shop for treatment, but her health worsened and she later passed away at Alac Village.
The matter was initially reported at Ayabi Town Council Police Station and subsequently registered as a murder case at Kwania Central Police Station (CPS).
A team of officers led by IP Dila Maxwell, Officer in Charge of Ayabi Town Council Police Station, alongside D/AIP Ocan, the Scene of Crime Officer, D/AIP Ogole Joseph, OC CID Ayabi, and other uniformed personnel, visited and examined the scene. The area was processed and documented through photography, sketch plans, and detailed note-taking. Statements were also recorded from relevant witnesses.
Police medical forms 48A and 48B were issued and duly completed as part of the postmortem process. The body was conveyed to the mortuary where a postmortem examination was conducted to establish the exact cause of death.
No arrests have been made so far, but police say efforts to trace and apprehend the suspects are ongoing.
