Alebtong Woman Member of Parliament, Dorcas Acen, has called on educated and wealthy women to respect and support their husbands, emphasizing the importance of maintaining strong family bonds regardless of their social or economic status. Acen made the remarks on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, while serving as the guest of honor at a Women’s Day celebration organized by Aloi CDC in Aloi town council Alebtong district
Speaking at the event, Acen shared her personal example, revealing that despite holding two degrees and pursuing a PhD, she remains committed to respecting her husband and fulfilling her household responsibilities. “When I am at home, I kneel to greet my husband and take care of my family. Education and wealth should not make us forget our roles at home,” she said.
The MP criticized the trend of some women abandoning their husbands after gaining financial independence, citing a case in Alebtong where a former woman MP allegedly left her spouse. Acen stressed that such actions are detrimental to family unity and progress. “As women, we must stand by our husbands and work together to build strong homes. Abandoning them is not the way forward,” she added.
In a gesture of support for local women’s empowerment, Acen donated two large saucepans and 100 plates to the Awito Mixed Can Apoto Atura group in Akwangkel Parish, Aloi Sub County. The donation is aimed at boosting the group’s catering services, which have been a source of livelihood for its over 250 members.
Charles Agai, the vice chairperson of the group, expressed gratitude for the MP’s generosity, noting that since the group’s inception in 2007, no one had ever supported them in such a meaningful way. “We are deeply thankful to Hon. Dorcas Acen for this donation. All our members will vote for her in 2026 to ensure she continues her good work,” Agai said.
Moses Otongo Muziki, Acen’s political assistant, echoed Agai’s sentiments, urging the people of Alebtong to re-elect Acen in the 2026 elections. “Hon. Acen has demonstrated her commitment to the people of Alebtong. It’s time to give her another term to continue her transformative work,” Muziki stated.
The event highlighted Acen’s dual message of promoting respect and partnership in marriage while supporting community development initiatives. Her call for unity in homes and her tangible support for local women’s groups have further endeared her to the people of Alebtong, solidifying her reputation as a leader who prioritizes both family values and community progress.
