Alebtong Chairperson Breaks Silence on Official Vehicle Accident

Alebtong, 9th July 2025 — The District Chairperson of Alebtong David Kennedy Odongo has issued a public statement addressing the circumstances surrounding the accident involving the official vehicle assigned to his office, which occurred on the afternoon of July 3rd, 2025.

In the press statement, the Chairperson clarified that he was not present at the time of the incident and had handed the vehicle over for repair after experiencing a puncture en route to Uganda Martyrs University’s Ngetta Campus, where he is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture.

“Given the urgency of attending lectures and exams, I made the responsible decision to leave the vehicle at a garage along Juba Road and continued to campus in my private car,” the Chairperson explained.

However, he revealed that while the vehicle was under repair, unauthorized trainees at the garage road-tested it without approval, leading to an accident at around 4:00 PM the same day. Neither the garage owner nor the Chairperson was present during the incident.

The matter was immediately reported to police, and an inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles has already taken place. The garage owner has since accepted full responsibility and committed to covering the repair costs.

The Chairperson expressed concern over the spread of “false and malicious allegations” on social media and local radio, which he  said were politically motivated attempts to tarnish his name. He called for calm and urged the public to reject misinformation.

“I want to reassure the public that I acted responsibly and transparently. Legal and administrative steps have been taken, and the situation is being handled according to proper procedure,” he stated.

Citing Proverbs 12:22, he urged those spreading falsehoods to choose truth over propaganda and emphasized his continued commitment to service delivery, transparency, and integrity.

The Chairperson concluded by thanking those who have offered support and reaffirmed his intention to contest in the upcoming elections with “renewed energy and faith in the truth.”
