Kampala, Uganda – Samuel Wampero, an accountant at Nakawa Vocational Institute, has been arraigned before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Court on charges of forgery and uttering false documents.
The suspect was arrested in a joint operation by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit,the Criminal Investigations Directorate and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.He has been remanded until April 22, 2025, when his case will resume.
According to court documents, Wampero allegedly forged several academic credentials, including: Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE)from the Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB). A diploma transcript from Makerere University Business School (MUBS).A bachelor's degree transcript from Kyambogo University.
Prosecutors say he presented these fraudulent documents to the Education Service Commission (ESC) in 2004 to secure employment with the Ministry of Education and Sports.
Forgery and uttering false documents are serious offenses under Uganda’s Penal Code. If convicted, Wampero could face a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by Ugandan authorities to crack down on fraudulent qualifications used to secure jobs, particularly in government institutions.
The State House Anti-Corruption Unit has intensified its operations against individuals who use fake academic papers to gain employment. This arrest sends a strong warning to other public servants who may have obtained jobs through fraudulent means.
The case has been adjourned to April 22, 2025 for further hearing.
