AMOLATAR/ DOKOLO – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, campaigning as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer, has rolled out a comprehensive development package for the Lango sub-region, promising to tarmac several key roads, increase parish development funds, and compensate households with cattle.
The President made the announcements on Wednesday during his campaign rallies in Amolatar and Dokolo districts, in a direct appeal to voters ahead of the upcoming elections.
A significant part of the President's address focused on improving the region's road network. He listed several roads earmarked for tarmacking, a move aimed at boosting trade and connectivity.
"When the NRM came to power, there was no tarmac road from Lira to Soroti, but now the tarmac is there," President Museveni stated, using past achievements to bolster his new promises.
The roads he pledged to upgrade include
Dokolo-Amolatar-Namasale Road,Katina-Ocero-Amolatar Road,Lira-Aloi-Otuke Road, Lira-Apala-Alebtong Road and Gulu-Bobi-Oyam Road
He also confirmed that the tarmacking of the strategic Rwenkunyu-Apac-Lira-Ogur-Puranga road is already underway.
Beyond infrastructure, the President announced a substantial financial injection into the Parish Development Model (PDM). He pledged to increase the funds allocated to each parish from the current 100 million Shillings to 115 million Shillings, emphasizing that the additional money would empower local leaders to drive poverty eradication initiatives.
In a notable promise, President Museveni also confirmed that the government would compensate each household in Lango with five cattle. This pledge is likely aimed at revitalizing the livelihoods of families in the predominantly agricultural region.
Echoing the President's message, the Second National NRM Vice Chairperson (Female) and Speaker of Parliament, Annet Anita Among, urged voters to overwhelmingly support the NRM.
Anita specifically called on the people of Dokolo to vote for President Museveni and other NRM flag bearers "in big numbers" to ensure the continuation of development programs.
"The NRM government delivers on its promises. For us to see more of these developments, we must vote wisely and keep the NRM in power," she asserted.
President Museveni is scheduled to continue his campaign tour on Thursday, with rallies planned in the Alebtong and Otuke districts, where he is expected to reiterate these development commitments.
