Busia, Uganda – Stephen Mugeni Wasike, the Busia District LC5 Chairperson, has been arraigned before the Busia Chief Magistrate Court on charges of stealing from a motor vehicle belonging to the district local government.
The Anti-Corruption Unit of State House working with the Criminal Investigations Directorate and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions prosecuted the case.
According to court documents, on March 8, 2025,Wasike allegedly stole an engine and gearbox from a Toyota Hilux Double Cabin (Reg. No. UAK 827Z),a vehicle owned by Busia District Local Government. The stolen parts were valued at approximately Ugx 30 million.
The accused was remanded until May 8, 2025,when he will reappear in court for further proceedings.
This case adds to a growing list of corruption allegations against local government officials, raising concerns about misuse of public resources.
