New Skills in Fish Feed Production Rolled Out at Dewilos Fish Farm in Amuca
I Will Vote Eddy Morrish Ogweng For MP Lira City West 2026-2031

Amuca, Lira | KarumaPost – September 16, 2025

Dewilos Fish Farm in Amuca, opposite Kingstone Petroleum Station along Kampala Road, has introduced innovative and affordable fish feed solutions aimed at improving fish farming in the Lango sub-region.

Speaking to KarumaPost on Tuesday, Mr. Felix Owilo, the director of Dewilos Fish Farm, shared how they are using Azolla, a fast-growing aquatic fern, as a highly nutritious feed for tilapiachickens, and pigs.

“Azolla is very rich in protein—more than the small fish known as wanyjiri—and it also helps increase oxygen levels in the water,” said Owilo.

In addition to Azolla, the farm is using Black Soldier Fly larvae, which are harvested from decomposed organic waste. According to Owilo, these larvae serve as a high-protein feed that promotes faster and healthier growth in fish.

Furthermore, Dewilos Fish Farm has introduced a cost-effective method of constructing fishponds using wooden frames and taplines, which Owilo says is both affordable and durable.

“We are committed to empowering local farmers. I will be offering free training sessions on how to make these feeds and construct low-cost fishponds,” he said.

Mr. Owilo urged residents of Lango to embrace fish farming as a profitable venture, especially with the availability of local, low-cost feed options.

“Fish farming can change lives. We have the resources, and now we have the knowledge. Let’s use it,” he added.

Farmers and interested individuals can contact Mr. Owilo directly at 0768 786 266 for training and more information on feed production and fishpond construction.
