Aweikwo, Oyam District – March 4, 2025
Residents of Aweikwo Cell in Alutkot Parish, Loro Sub-County, Oyam District, are celebrating the installation of a new borehole, a development expected to transform lives by providing clean and safe drinking water.
The borehole, funded by Pioneer Africa Evangelism Services in partnership with Hon. Patrick Ogwang Obura, is set to benefit over 3,000 residents who have long struggled with water shortages and reliance on contaminated sources. For years, the lack of clean water has exposed the community to waterborne diseases, posing a serious health risk.
Speaking at the commissioning of the borehole, Aweikwo Cell LC1 Chairman Alfred Onyangexpressed his deep gratitude to the donors, stating that the project would greatly improve sanitation and reduce disease outbreaks in the area.
Patrick Ogwang Obura, an NRM party hopeful candidate for Oyam South, highlighted the significance of essential services such as clean water and roads in transforming rural communities. He urged residents to continue trusting him, assuring them of more support in the future.
Kenneth Ayuku, Ogwang’s political assistant, commended his commitment to uplifting local communities and encouraged residents to back him in upcoming elections so he could continue his development initiatives.
Patrick Nelson Okunu, the LC3 chairperson of Loro Sub-County, urged the community to vote wisely, arguing that their choices should reflect the need for continued support and development in Oyam South.
Meanwhile, Christine Nyanane, the Community Development Officer (CDO) for Loro Sub-County, emphasized the importance of collaboration between politicians and local government to drive meaningful development. She called on leaders to work closely with the people rather than viewing them as insignificant.
Justine Okello, the Public Relations Officer for Pioneer Africa Evangelism Services, revealed plans to drill over 100 boreholes across Oyam South in 2025, ensuring access to clean water for thousands more residents.
The Aweikwo community welcomed the borehole with joy, hoping it would not only reduce cases of waterborne diseases but also address social challenges such as domestic violence and family disputes, which have been linked to the struggle for clean water.
This borehole stands as a symbol of hope and progress for Aweikwo, marking a step forward in improving public health and community well-being.
