Police in Oyam District have arrested 19 suspects following an intelligence-led night operation conducted in Kamdini Town Council on March 19–20, 2026.
The operation, carried out by territorial police, was prompted by a surge in security concerns raised by residents over persistent criminal activities in the area. Authorities say the crackdown targeted suspected organized criminal gangs, including a group commonly known as “K29,” which has been linked to a series of serious crimes, including murder and other violent offenses.
The operation was commanded by the District Police Commander (DPC) of Oyam, SP Okongo Francis, with support from the Officer in Charge of Kamdini Police Station.
According to police, the suspects arrested during the operation include Okot Gerald, Etot Stephen, Okello Denis, Otoo Bashir, Opio Lawrence, Ibaru Benson, Kawunda Richard, Okori Jolly, Omara Denis, Adupa George, Ebil Mark, Okiba Lawrence, Okello Bashir, Ejang Sarah, Abang Milly, Annah Ayiko, Janet Akullu, Steven Ocen, and Emmanuel Olam.
All the suspects are currently detained at Kamdini Police Station pending screening and further investigations. Police indicated that upon completion of the screening process, the suspects will be formally charged where sufficient evidence is established. Some of the anticipated charges include possession of narcotic drugs such as opium.
North Kyoga Regional Police Public Relations Officer, SP PJ Okema, said the operation is part of ongoing efforts by the Uganda Police Force to disrupt criminal networks and restore public confidence in security.
He emphasized that similar intelligence-led operations will continue across the region to combat crime and enhance public safety.
Police have also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible information.
“Fighting crime is a collective responsibility, and we urge the community to support ongoing efforts to ensure a safer environment for all,” Okema said.
Authorities believe the latest operation marks a significant step in addressing insecurity in Kamdini Town Council and the wider Oyam District.
